I have been a member of The Florida Bar since 1996. For my entire career, I have been a small firm lawyer in Sarasota, practicing at the same firm. I am a working lawyers’ lawyer; I know what Florida lawyers experience, as I have been the managing partner at my firm since 2002. I understand the daily challenges of generating business, paying the bills, keeping overhead down, and keeping the lights on. Like many of you, I have a family with young kids, and understand the pressures and stresses of our profession. But there is always time for the most important part of my life – my wife, Tia, my daughter Ayla, and my son Arie.

Each of us have our own reasons for becoming lawyers. The life and practice of a lawyer looks very different now than it did a couple of years ago. Our businesses and communities are still facing the impacts of the pandemic. It will be a long haul as we recover, and the practice of law will not look the same. The Florida Bar’s resources are best invested in making sure every member can meet these new challenges, protect their livelihoods and preserve justice for Floridians.
